After many books at the university, I finally met a therapist who was human and open and that taught me how to be human and open with love and compassion. He was able to bring therapy down to earth and to make it something warm that hits the human hearts and not just a clinical, burocratic or cold approach. It is a pleasure to share this video with you as tribute to him and his important work for people. Compassion is our main tool to deal with problems.

I am very interested in your research, to come to such a conclusion. Your applied ideas are a reality. I too have recognised such reality and the oppression of our society.
My own conclusion is not so dramatic as expressed in your video, however, I deal with clients on a regular basis and recognise depression and fear are leading causes of illness due to this malady. I believe globally we have become confused to our own gender, and many are very unhappy in life. I also recognise the solution and would be very interested in sharing with you. The video presentation was great, but because of the adult content I wont be able to share.

so, do I understand well you believe that women would act the same way as men in hipotetical situation? Is this the outcome of your study?
The movie is nice and gives me the real feeling of how unfair is society…it’s the role game tht doesn’t work. We are all human being and as such we have equal dignity! That’s the conclusion…

  • Wow that was interesting. When I saw the title I was expecting to find a film that demonstrates how difficult it is for men to succeed in a world where the masculine role has been so undermined.

I think that outside, in society, women still have a great deal of difficulty addressing the problems of sexism which is such an ever-present daily reality that it is almost invisible. However, in relationships, in the home, I notice that men very often subjugate their needs “for a quiet life” and that the strong emotional reaction of women scare men off from “telling it like it is”. Political correctness around sexism has meant there is a great deal of tension between the sexes; from clothes choices, to initiating sexual encounters.

I have been looking closely at these things for some time now and when I saw the title of this video I was pleased that the difficulties that men often experience were finally being talked about openly. My initial disappointment soon gave way to being pleased that such a video exists. More understanding between people about the diversity of experience can only be a good thing IMO. However I would be happy to see one addressing the difficulties that men face in this modern society where it seems that masculinity and the male role has been attacked.

Thank you for posting this Somesh.

Interesting film that was also disturbing. But oppression of men AND women by our society is also part of the picture and ignored. I get the point that at the individual level we must act differently and alter our habits of feelings. thoughts and beliefs but oppression in all of its forms is the issue. Men and women act out society’s oppression of them on each other. As a male social worker and therapist for close to 50 years, I have had oppressive female and male bosses. I fervently hope that the few times I was a boss that I was not oppressive and certainly, if I was, I hope that I was not more oppressive of women than the men who according to the structure of the organization were supposed to report to me. I also like to believe that I do not act out the oppression of myself on my clients although there is research suggesting that this happens in many organizations. By focussing on the micro aspects of the issue of oppression (such as in this film) we often ignore the macro aspects. We behave like wolf packs with Alpha Males and Alpha Females at the head of the pack. Our society structures perpetuate the same dynamics. We (s)elect leaders (mostly male but sometimes female) to tell us what to do based on their power. Then we obey even when we know it is wrong. If we blow the whistle we are persecuted and sometimes prosecuted.
